- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
- 3/4 cup buttermilk
- 1 pound ground breakfast sausage
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 3 cups whole milk
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 450F 230C
In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt
Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs
Add buttermilk and stir until the dough comes together
Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gently knead a few times until smooth
Pat the dough out to 1-inch thickness and cut biscuits using a biscuit cutter
Place biscuits on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown
While biscuits are baking, cook sausage in a large skillet over medium heat until browned and cooked through, breaking it up into crumbles
Sprinkle cooked sausage with flour and cook for 1-2 minutes
Gradually whisk in milk, stirring constantly until thickened
Season with salt and pepper to taste
Serve biscuits topped with sausage gravy
