Ingredients:
- 2 cups elbow macaroni
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/4 cup butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon paprika optional
- 1/4 cup breadcrumbs optional
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 350F 175C
Cook macaroni according to package instructions, then drain
In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat
Stir in flour until smooth
Gradually add milk, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens
Remove from heat and stir in 1 1/2 cups of cheddar cheese until melted
Season with salt, pepper, and paprika, if using
Combine cooked macaroni with cheese sauce, then transfer to a greased baking dish
Sprinkle remaining cheddar cheese and breadcrumbs over the top, if desired
Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until bubbly and golden brown on top
